I try to write of you,
placing with infinite care,
these words, but they flail
like the wings of dark birds
beating against the edges of the page.
Caught on paper,
the life in them dies;
they fade to the pale color of rain,
and pool at my feet...

How many times has the moon
become new since you left?
I have yet to lose count.
Your absence remains by my side,
a silence within silence,
this thing of solid heft and pain,
mute as an egg of stone.

What I want is to write you down,
to feel you under my fingers,
but I canít moan or gasp
or wail on paper;
I canít, with my words, make it real,
make it breathe... I canít

make it you.

We speak to remember,
but I am still without voice.
I am left with writing,
with caging doomed birds
on this ordinary paper,
ritual sacrifices performed
in an attempt to bring you back.

Filled with sorrows,
I am frightened...
I try to remember your face,
but all I can see
is this damned room full of rain.

"I place these moments in my pocket
to be pulled
at the rush of noon,
the crush of three...
when tears come,
when words must learn to be enough..." MKL

CJ, you make me smile

...a genius? Not hardly! However, I do feel blessed... in many ways, not the least of which is to be in the company of a great group of people on this site and a fine poet such as you.

Thank you for your gracious words!

Regards to you,
