The grim marshes are one of the most dangerous places in the Holy Empire. Most people that entered them never came back. But it weren’t the creatures that lived there. Those few that survive describe them as “hands, which appear from the ground and try to bury whatever they manage to catch. But how did this happen?
When the Empire was divided there were once were the Grim Swamps stood a small village. The people their were specialized in dark magic. They could control animals and also morph themselves into whatever they wanted. All they needed for that task were their hands. It was said that if one of them lost even one hand he was thrown out from the village. One day a large barbarian army looking for treasures found the small village and demanded tribute. The villagers refused and morphed themselves into all sort hostile creatures. The battle was fearsome and the barbarians won. The massacred the village. They cut off all their hands. The village’s high Shaman threw a curse on this area, making all the hands sink into the ground. When the barbarians killed the Shaman and started to return to their place of origin all the hands appeared once more and took the whole army with them below the surface.
No one knows what happened to the whole army. People still go there though searching for lost treasures and riches, which never existed and will not exist.
