Beneath the flags of glory lie the bodies of the dead
Their youth and innocence torn asunder.
Must we rejoice and sing
While their spirits lie in torment?

Let us not forget their sacrifice
For in that lies true sin.
A Nation raised in blood
To fulfill its destiny in freedom.

That freedom we tout so loudly
Is not ours alone to cry.
For many died along the way
To help this land take wing.

Although some struggled to break the chains
That bound it to the crown,
We bathed our own hands in blood
At the cost of countless souls.

Indigenous folk, they died in droves
And slaves we took to till this land
We call the heart of freedom.
Though we try to forget.

Within the exodus of many
Hide the stories of heroism and bravery,
Pain and suffering that tear our eyes in shame.
Yet we rejoice.

Let us not forget their sacrifice
For too without their blood
Or pain or loss or fear,
This nation would be less.

Let us bow our heads in prayer
And fill our hearts with pride
And remember the countless souls
Who sacrificed their dreams
So that we may have this day.

"See the man with the lonely eyes, oh, take his hand, you'll be surprised." Supertramp.
