The Battles
An excerpt from, The Calling

Men of hearts with fears of old.
Carry on with guts so bold.
Frozen in the icy cold.
It was battle that did this you know?

Too many a family that hasn't a father.
They'll die in the battles so why even bother?
Send them out to die out yonder.
It was battle that did this you know?

The dead become heroes, one day forgot.
Out in the fields, their bodies to wrought.
Once they're all gone, they'll send the next lot.
The battles will end, or so you thought.

If only you had known
It was battles that did this you know?
Now, you know.
