Eyes Wide Shut

Look at the sky. What do you see?
Look in my eyes. What have i come to be?
See the fire. See the burning flames
All the pain through the endless stream of names

I always knew iíd end up this way
Feeling alone with nothing important to say
Feel the smoke burning in your eyes
All the anger. I become what i once despised

We can shut our eyes to it all
If we keep them shut, we wonít see the fall
You donít see the bruises, donít mean theyíre not there
If you shut your eyes, you donít have to care

The anger now, it always seems to grow
No matter how i try to keep it under control
What have i become? Some where between wolf and man
As i try to fight it, i fear i never can

We can shut our eyes to it all
If we keep them shut, we wonít see the fall
You donít see the bruises, donít mean theyíre not there
If you shut your eyes, you donít have to care
And you can call me crazy, call me blind
Stop looking for things i might never find
Lifeís the way it is, thereís no hope for change
But i must be stronger

I see those eyes, they put me in my place
Because iíve seen those same eyes in my own face
Iíve got to change, got to turn it around
Some sense of self has got to be found

I always knew iíd end up this way
Same old shit, just on a different day
No one on who i can truly depend
But in the courtroom ittíll finally come to an end

We can shut our eyes to it all
If we keep them shut, we wonít see the fall
You donít see the bruises, donít mean theyíre not there
If you shut your eyes, you donít have to care
And you can call me crazy, call me blind
Stop looking for things i might never find
Lifeís the way it is, thereís no hope for change
But i must be stronger

very sad
E.G.,
I like the lyrics alot, they seem to speak volumes about parts of family life that many don't seem to want to see. Fabulously done.

Hope
E.G,
The only response to this is keep trying and I believe you can fight this demon.

well said...
I really liked the way you wrote this, what you said, and agree also with the previous two statements.

It moved me - and your quote is highly meaningful to myself, having also survived parental abuse. May we have the power to change this way of life.
