The tears come in waves
Yesterday they came crashing on the shore
I cried today, a puddle
For the saddest thing in my world
Stays with me each day
‘Let him go’ they said
‘You’re Daddy’s gone’
The person I love most in the world

His passing is the lowest point
Of my life
I love my family
And I love my dad
That empty space is now
In the centre of my life

I’d pick up the phone
To tell him my jokes
To tell him things
To tell everything
To cry

Now I can only smile
And dab my eyes
And move on as they say
But that doesn’t stop me
Talking to dad
Because, you know
He was always there
For me
I remember the best laughs
We all had together
In those months
Before he died

Yes I still talk to dad
When I’m on my own
With the VCR and
A cup of tea
I laugh when he acts the fool
And that bit when he turns
To face the camera
That’s where I like
To pause the film

It’s that little smile
That tells me he’s still
There for me

Bye for now
