The small band stopped at the very edge of the valley. Here in this valley is where the Bronzewood met the Gull Cliffs. This small strip of land was home to the secret church of Eilistraee. Supposedly there was an underground entrance as well as caves nearby. He crouched down low and signaled Darralon and Averros to keep still.
Eliwood was privy to this information because of his rank in the military. It wasn't safe for the average elf to know drow were so close to their homes, good or not. Up untill now he hadn't thought about how his companions would react. Darralon seemed to go with the flow no matter what, a trait he seemed to get from humans. But Averros, well after what happened last time he wasn't so sure this was a good idea anymore, bringing them here. The consequences would prove disasterous should he not approach the matter with a certain tact.
"I think we are being watched," said Daralon in a shaky voice. His eyes peered around them constantly.
"There is one in a tree to our left, and at least two behind us," Eliwood murmured. He chuckled and scanned the valley below.
"What in the blazes? Who are they? We are elves and we own this forest. Who is watching us?" Averros gritted his teeth. He too begain looking for their unknown stalkers. He couldn't see anything in the tree Eliwood mentioned but he could feel the eyes. He grasped his sword hilt and a bead of sweat dropped.
Daralon spread his feet wide apart in a battle stance. He knew he could draw his blade in a flash should something attack them. What unnerved him was Eliwood. Calm and collected, he was still crouched, now exaniming the grass in front of him. Daralon sighed and called a spell to mind. Just in case.
"Friends, I can feel how tense you are. Calm down a bit, they wont attack because they are unsure why we are here. Let go of your weapons will you?" Eliwood stood back up and looked towards his companions.
Daralon shrugged and did as he was told. Averros's face bunched up in confusion. He guessed the ranger knew what he was doing. He realized he had been grasping his sword hilt so hard his knuckles had turned white. He let go and calmed down a bit. He thought about Avina. He looked back behind them, towards the small village of Even Crest, as if he would see her through the trees.
Satisfied Eliwood continued, "Averros, I need you to be polite. You must not act rashly towards these people again. I mean it friend, I have been scolded by Rowina, we must be polite as possbile. Not all of Tethrin's teachings are blatantly true." He examined his friends reaction.
"Sorry, sometimes I act...on emtion alone without thinking. Perhaps that is why Avina loves me so," Averros said with a half hearted smile. "I will try to control myself. But what are you talking about Tethrin's teachings?"
"The ones watching us are drow. Dark elves. Not all of Eilistraee's followers are drow, but most of them are."
Daralon's eyes bugged out and Eliwood laughed. He stopped laughing when he realized Averros was silent.
"What?! Your telling me to calm down when evil drow are watching our every move?! Tethrin save us," Averros hissed as he unsheathed his weapon. He began looking desperately for something to strike. His eyes had a crazed look in them as they jumped back and forth, searching for movement around them.
Eliwood could almost hear the hand crossbows being readied. Daralon had a confused look on his face, his mentor didn't seem like the friendly rival he knew. The younger elf seemed shocked and looked to Eliwood for guidance. Eliwood sighed as he tried to reason with him.
"Will you look at yourself Averros? Your going to get us killed. Not all drow are evil alright?"
"What?! Your the one going to get us killed. Dragging us out here knowing drow are in the Bronzewood, some friend you are!"
Eliwood had had enough. As Averros looked to his right thinking he had heard something, the ranger walked up and punched him in the gut, dropped his friend in a heap. His blade clanged to the ground.
Daralon seemed lost. This was a little too much for him Eliwood thought. He turned his attention back to his friend who was kneeling now, "They haven't done anything to us yet. Again, look at yourself. What would Avina think?"
That struck a cord with Averros. He started laughing uncontrollably. Daralon joined in nervously. What in the hell were they doing?
Eliwood helped his friend up. Just then a melodic voice drifted to them. In unison, the three companions looked behind them, towards the valley. There, they saw the most beautiful female the three of them had ever seen. She had long silver hair, as it were made from shining glitter. Her eyes were a light violet, soft and strong. She wore magnificant elvin chain mail and her skin was as black as night. She had an unearthly glow about her, an aura of power not seen but only felt. She was beyond mortal.
"Greetings friends. My name is Lady Sable. Eilistraee greets you as well. How may I help you?" said the female drow.
"Yes milady. Forgive me and my friend's manners. I'm Eliwood. We are just looking to talk with a friend of mine, her name is Rowina."
"Rowina?" she echoed. Then she seemed to sink inside of herself for a moment and think. "Right this way Eliwood and company, I will take you to her."
