Here's an old-timey styled blues song

I was young, thinking that I knew the very best way
Stepping into trouble – wasting each and every day
Every road a hard one – got no helping hand
Shakin’ and a-moving – doing whatever I can

If you ever wondered how a good man goes bad

She was a dancer – put my poor soul on fire
She was a wicked thing – a cheat and a liar
She wanted the world – told me ‘lie back down’
I gave her everything – surely lost more than I’ve found

If you ever wondered – how a good man goes bad

I lost all reason – fell nose down in cocaine
Burned both candle ends – had me go near insane
If stupid was a virtue – I’d surely win heaven's prize
But you can’t dance to a tune – when the music is a lie

If you ever wondered – how a good man goes bad

I would lie for money – do anything for fame
Pushed by an evil wind – caught out in the rain
Storms raged against me – and I had no where to go
Beatin’ bruised and battered – brought down low

If you ever wondered how a good man goes bad

Then I ran into a Preacher – taught me how to pray
Said I was a sinner – in Hell's fire I would pay
Can’t say I believe him – the Lord don’t work that way
Even a damn fool like me – gets his sins washed away

I think I know now - how a good man goes bad
I think I know now - how a good man goes bad

Why is doing what you love the hardest thing to do? Is it because failing what you thought defined you would be too devastating a thing from which to recover? If so, we stay where mere accident has left us.

Ken's Blues..
Been listening to Tab Benoit, with Billy Joe Shaver ("Why are people like that"), Robert Lockwood Jr. ("Blues and trouble, they have been my closest friends."), Keb' Mo', J.J.Cale ("After Midnight"), Johnnie B. Johnson's "Johnnie B. Bad" CD ("Tanqueray") and last, but certainly not least, B.B. King's "80th Birthday" CD..

Enjoyed your offering..

Rave on..

Ciao,

@Lena & Bobby
Lena: Given your love of music and discerning nature I am honored. Thanks

Bobby: Cool! Great music. You hit my 'chops-too-cool-to-handle' nerve with the mention of J.J.Cale, one of my favorites- and under appreciated artists. A nod from you taken with a bow - thanks!

"Naturally"..
Ken,
Got a bunch of his CD's downloaded..
I really dig the live version of "After Midnight"..think it's from 2001. Of course, the original version is great, as well.

JJ Cale
One of the things, as an old rocker, that's missing in music these days - not that you can't find the recordings - is the sense of organic music, the jam. As a player myself, some wondeful moments happen sometimes outside the tried and true arrangements. I think jj is able to capture that in his recordings.

Now we are in my era.
Here's a liitle thing - go check out Buddy Guy and then go listen to Hendrix. It's a shame that Guy was an innovator and played a, mostly unknown, second to a sideman who was purple hazed, copying all his riffs and style. Life is a mystery.

Ken,
John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Taj Mahal, Pinetop Perkins, Robert Lockwood Jr, B.B. King, Clapton...My library is all about the blues..Of course, Dylan, the Stones, Van and Marley are well represented too..

Albert King..Albert Collins..

All that! I had the opportunity to see Dylan and Van Morrison in a show at the Duck Pond/ Anahiem Venue.CA. Raw,real, and unforgetable. I'm a sucker for the live and chunky sound -overproduce and I fall asleep. I'll see where our producer puts us when this next project is done.

Ken's sound..
Saw Van Morrison in Philadelphia, 1978. Priceless. Caught Dylan a couple times..76&78, also in Philly..as well as Marley a couple times (77 and 79), Toots and the Maytals (76)..Clapton, with The Band (1974)..of course, the Stones, twice in 1972(The Spectrum,in Philly), 1975 at Madison Square Garden, in NYC and at the Spectrum, 78 at JFK Stadium, and 1981- at the Tangerine Bowl, FLA..

You can't beat live.

@bobby
LOL cool! Show me your scar and I'll show you mine! See, all of that had a feel and a texture that isn't around today, accept in a few bands. Please make me wrong and make some suggestions. Wait- I may have one. Last week I went and saw Pat Benatar. Still pretty good, the old gal and Spider still rock. I saw The Eagles 'final tour' and was astounded on how flawless the sound was - very good. I saw CSN&Young a few years back, otherwise known as the Niel Young Show, and loved that those old throats crunched and strained on every song - guitar licks verged on atonic chaos, yet it was wonderful.
