We're giving the "Writing Challenge" one last try before it's retired.

For this challenge, write a descriptive piece about your favorite historical person. It can be about anyone from any time-period; however, don't write ABOUT the person's accomplishments. Describe the person so that the readers know the character intimately. Find a way to get us "inside" the character's head.

Sound challenging? It is. But we'll feature the best submission in next month's issue of Majestic.

Hey Bud: Truthfully I really dig doing the 'Writing Challenge'. So why no response last month well it was the subject matter. I find too often the subject does not provide fodder for the imagination. I accept it must be a devil of a job coming up with a subject. Personally I would love to see a choice of two subjects to choose from. Last months 'Why I like the Site' felt more like 'What did you like about your summer holidays?', remember the eternal question the teacher asked in September. Your favourite 'Historical Person' is fine if you are into history, if not it's hard to get into, in other words it is not very generic. I was wondering if it would be helpful to ask members to send in 'ideas' for the Writing Challenge, requesting they be short, provocative and challenging in some way to help create more potential for response to this great challenge? Now that I've opened my big yap I will start with one idea: You write major articles for a Newspaper, your boss just gave you an assignment you don't want. (with imaginagion this idea could develope in many directions). Please take this as it is meant as positive feedback, thank you for listening. Namaste, Gale.

I LOVE positive feedback.

And maybe you've hit the nail on the head!

What if we "revolved" the writing challenge? Each month, about a week before the newsletter goes out, I "tag" someone to come up with the writing challenge?

Do you think that would generate more interest.

And we could retitle the writing challenge. For instance, if we were to use your suggestion, for that month we could call it "Gale's Writing Challenge".

I like that. Keep the ideas coming, Gale, and what does everyone think?

The deadline/rules
I would like to have everyone's submissions by July 25th. The only rule is you stick to the topic, and post it under "Writing Challenge" so I can find it easily.

And this month, I think we have a choice: My idea, or Gale's. Either is fine. And if anyone wants to PM me ideas for next month's writing challenge, please, send some my way!
