We’ve had another busy month at litdotorg.
First, the news I’m sure everyone has been waiting to hear: I finished my manuscript! I beat my deadline by two weeks, and soon it will be in production. I’m scheduled for publication in the winter of 2010, and I couldn’t be happier. I would like to thank each of you who extended your support during my writing process. As soon as the title is finalized, I will update everyone so you can be on the lookout for it.
My pen is not resting! The same day that I sent the manuscript to my publisher (Inner Traditions), I outlined my next project, which is another collection of short stories based on ancient Yoruba myths. I’m also researching historical background for my first novel. A writer’s work is never done, and I hope each of you is busy working on your own special writing projects, as am I.
As I begin work on my first novel, I will take the next step in my professional development – the acquisition of a literary agent. I know we have a few agented authors among our ranks at litdotorg, so if any of you are reading this newsletter and have helpful hints, I’d be more than happy to have them. When I have a few sample chapters and a proposal written, I’ll be making the rounds to various literary agencies, and I’ll share my successes and dead ends with you. Hopefully, this will be a learning process from which we can all benefit.
I’d also like to announce a recent success by one of our columnists: Sandra Yuen Mackay. For months, she’s been writing a column for Majestic titled “Musings.” While writing for us at litdotorg, she’s been working on her own personal project, a short novella called “Hell’s Fire.” Bewildering Stories has her work slated for publication in the late summer/early fall. She describes it as sci-fi, but admits it has elements of westerns, dramas, and romance as well. Her description of the work is, “With the threat of earth’s destruction looming, Johnny Riggs goes on a mission to save his supernaturally gifted daughter Annie from alien abduction.” Sandra also has another project in acquisitions with Bewildering Stories. As the date for her novella’s publication approaches, we’ll keep everyone informed, and provide a link so our members can see what other wonderful projects our columnists work on in their spare time.
A few other notes:
I would like to encourage our members to take advantage of our monthly Writing Challenge. It is a chance for all members to show off their literary skills, and have their peers rate their work on a scale of 1 – 10. It’s a friendly competition, and gives everyone the chance to grow.
Unless plans have changed, TheRealKarmaTseringLhamo has agreed to take over a litdotorg staple, Exposed! Very soon, she might be contacting some of our members for interviews. As time permits, I will be helping and guiding her with this process. Exposed! is a wonderful opportunity for writer-exposure, and it also helps other members know who is who among our ranks. I encourage each of you to participate as the opportunity arrives.
Also, I am still looking for a volunteer to handle the Write-off section of litdotorg. If anyone has the courage and stamina to take over this litdotorg staple, please email me privately. We will highlight the submissions in each issue of Majestic.
And, as always, I am looking for more columnists for our newsletter Majestic. If you have an idea for a regular monthly column, and the dedication and commitment to turn out regular prose each month, contact me here through PM or email. Or, if you would like to write a regular monthly column, but don’t have any ideas, contact me anyway and we’ll figure out where your strengths are. Bit-by-bit, litdotorg is again becoming a strong writer’s resource on the web, and I would love to have everyone’s participation as we grow.
