Killing is wrong. Killing someone for killing someone else is also wrong. Therefore, the death penalty is wrong. Torturing, however, is perfectly fine. I know it sounds crazy, but just think about it. Why should they get off so easily? A life for a life doesn’t console the living. Knowing that they are going through pain everyday, just like you, and they have no way out, just like you, can give at least some comfort. Chief State’s Attorney of Connecticut John M. Bailey once said “Every dollar we spend on a capital case is a dollar we can't spend anywhere else. We have to let the public know what the death penalty really costs.” The truth is Capital Punishment cost $138 million per year on executions. Most of those executed deserve more then just death. According to clarkprosecutor.org, out of the 405 convicted murderers, who were on death row, 65% had a prior felony conviction, 8.4% had a prior homicide conviction, 7.8% had criminal charges pending, 26.7% were on probation or parole, 4.9% were incarcerated or had escaped from incarceration, and 14% had more then one death sentence. Let me say that again. More than one death sentence. I’m not and expert in the field, but I don’t think you can kill someone more than once. But if you replace the death penalty with torturing then you can make sure they pay for everything they ever did. Torturing would never cost really anything. You can torture someone with a piece of glass, hammer, a nail, even water. Their crime will decide how long and what kind of torture they will get. You wouldn’t want to torture a serial murderer the same way you would someone who killed only one person. It makes it slightly more far then saying everyone dies. Remember, life is cheap and death will always be the easy way out.
