Christmas Joy

Away in a toy store as Christmas draws nigh,
the mountains of money reach up to the sky,
the customers hurry their presents to buy
none notice the star shining high in the Sky.

This star once looked over a wondrous scene
where a baby was born to fulfil mankind’s dream
of peace on our earth and goodwill to all men,
but 200 years have passed by us since then.

So what has transpired since our God sent his son
did this make a difference in all we have done?
Has peace and good will been the nature of earth
what purpose fulfilled by our saviour’s birth?

A man in a red suit delights all our kids
to bring us goodwill ‘Merry Christmas’ he bids.
There’s more that believe that our Santa is real
than believe in the story of Jesus I feel.

So who spreads goodwill on this day every year,
who is it that helps our life’s pains disappear.
We all need to believe in this magical day
but 2000 odd years seems too far away.

The colour of red can bring cheer to your soul,
a warm friendly voice, our problems console.
A gift from a stranger, no matter how small
is a message that goodwill can be shared with all.

Away in a toy store as Christmas draws nigh,
the mountains of money reach up to the sky,
but maybe it’s worth all the pennies we spend
to share our thanksgiving with a special friend.

Santa or Jesus, whichever your way
are the spirits that help us enjoy Christmas day.
No matter it seems that this choice is so huge
there’s more joy with them, than if you worshiped Scrooge!

Impressions
Hi Ivor

'Wisps of memory
frailer than
the purple gossamer strands
that sway beyond the Zavvi windows.

Cocooned in the ambience within
drugged by arias,
lulled by etudes,
never before heard.

If Time froze
I'd never know-
nor care a whit.

..A world away-
beyond my ken,
the homeland bleeds
felled by a thousand cuts.

In the here and now-
the tidal bore surges.
Tearing the cornucopia
off groaning shelves.
A full,sufficient
and perfect sacrifice to
the rapacious Moloch
of Saturnalia...

Still mine's not the right
to cast the first stone."

The thief that stole Christmas!
Pure, vintage Ivor...and yes, it's sad but true, that more people honor Santa, than Jesus Christ, whose birth we are celebrating in the first place!!

How would you feel if it was YOUR birthday, and everyone celebrated the thief who stole your day in the interest of commerce!!

Sad but true commentary!

Merry Christmas my old friend...love it that you're back with us!!

@ Bea
Once your post is up, I have no way of editing it from our end. If you like, however, I can delete the post from my end, and you can repost.

Would you like me to do that?

@ Eric
It saddens me to hear of your brother and his health issues. I hope everything works out for the greater good of all involved.

Happy Birthday Ivor!
Happy Birthday my OLD friend...see you're well on your way on the road to maturity...what is it now 45..46? lol! Have a blast my friend.

On the other hand, if you're really not in to celebrating this momentus event:

Birthday Blues

We’ve reached that point in life
When birthdays should be banned
There’s nothing “happy” about it
It’s a plot that nature planned

I hate those cheery funny cards
With a million candles on the cake
As for that surprise party
It should really be a wake!

There should be cries of misery
And wailing should abound
For another year has been lost
And will never again be found

So forget the party hats
Ignore the date instead
Pretend it’s just another

Love ya,
Bea

Just thinking of you
Found my way to this through a path of other, newer stuff. Enjoyed it. Would hope to see more of you at some point here.

Hope all is well. Take care, sir.

Andy
Andy,

Good to see you around. Found your comment when browsing some of my 'last' work posted on the site after being unable to get logged in for months.

I am still interested in reading the book I was reviewing if it was ever published! Let me know if you finish it please.

Although I published a lot of work in my 'Ivors Ramblings' I have manged to recover an awful lot of work from the site that I had lost so may make a second edition.

If there is a link to that new book of yours please let me know and thank you for reading my work.

Hard to believe that this is still in the list of my last ten posts! I was off the site for 11 months apparently, are you still around and is that booked published yet!

If not is it still anywhere on the net I can catch up on its progress?
