Greetings and Salutations
“Knight-Champion Sagittus at your service.” The knight proudly proclaimed, followed by a deep and reverential bow.
Still awestruck Azrahael could only stammer, “W-wh-who are you? What are you!?”
“A simple hunter, as you are.” Sagittus said as he sat on the ground eating a Naaru ration.
“I’m nothing like you, “ Azrahael proclaimed shaking his head. “I could never have killed all those Timbermaw so quickly. What sort of magic is it that you use Sagittus?”
Sagittus’ head cocked to one side, “and your name is…?”
“A-Azrahael, I’m sorry. It’s just that..”
“No excuses young one. Courtesy, even towards one’s enemies is one of the many virtues of the Night Elves. You’d do wisely to remember that.”
“I’m sorry.” Azrahael said as his head dipped to the ground.
“Chin up my new found friend, and to answer your previous question I use no magic that is not already within us.”
“I-I don’t use magic, and I’ve never really seen it in me so I have no idea what in Elune’s name you’re talking about.”
Sagittus grinned to himself, and looked at the giant cat beside him now purring louder with each loving stroke of its’ master’s hand.
“This is Deimus by the way, the very best friend any hunter could ask for.”
Suddenly, Sagittus jumped up, performed a backflip, and unsheathed his swords in one motion.
“Ready young one?”
Taken aback yet again Azrahael asked “Ready for what!?”
“Your training.”
“Training for what!?”
“Azrahael. I’m a Night Elf of some power. I knew your story before I decided to come here. You’ve no reason to remain in these hallowed woods a simple bystander. It is time you learned what resides within you.”
“and what resides in me, since you apparently know everything?”
Sagittus let out a booming laugh.” I’ve never claimed to know everything little one, but to answer your question, what resides in you is Greatness.”
“Where will we be going?”
“Darnassus to visit a friend of mine.”
“Oh no! I am not going to Darnassus. There are way too many arrogant fools that toy with powers they cannot comprehend.”
Sagittus smiled at his new found friend. “That is why you will be great Azrahael. Now, I cannot make you come with me, but look about you. This is your home yet you were not able to defend the very one you loved from Death.”
Azrahael swung his fist instantly, and just as quickly his wrist was caught by Sagittus.
“I don’t mean to anger you, and I know the loss is hard to accept. But you have a choice to make right now Azrahael. You can stay and go about your life missing your love everyday, and fishing for your fish, and pray to Elune that Ashenvale is never attacked again.
OR
You can learn what Elune has to teach you. You can begin the path that is truly your unique destiny to fulfill. You can learn to fight as I do, and even become more powerful than I. As always though, the decision is yours my friend.”
Azrahael unable to fully comprehend what was being said was conflicted.
“You did kill the Timbermaw that destroyed my life and my love so I must thank you for that; but I cannot live a life devoted to vengeance when the cause of that vengeance is ceased.”
“It is not vengeance that I speak of, it is simply your contribution to this world. You will fight for goodness, balance, and the Light. Should you decide not to, those great things will be without a great and destined guardian.”
Sagittus then called forth his armored cat, mounted, and declared from above.
“The decision is yours, but you must decide now. Come with me and on the way I will show you some things that may convince you. Upon arrival should you decide to come back to these woods and continue with your simple life you may do so with my blessing. I only ask that you try to open your eyes to what is plainly before you.”
Azrahael tried to picture fishing, tending his chickens, but he could not without Sayward there. He then looked to the Timbermaw laying in pools of foul stenched blood.
“There are more like these?” Azrahael asked as he pointed to the corpses.
“There are creatures beyond your imagining, but yes there are more such as these, and they too are bent of wreaking havoc wherever they roam.”
That is how Azrahael made his decision. Since the life he had planned for himself and his love were now gone, he steeled his heart, and vowed to defend peaceful peoples wherever his future may take him.
He chose that day to fight for the Light.
