I'm a Uni student currently studying a Foundation Degree in Illustration. Our current assignment is to design and partially illustrate a childrens book, the story of which can either be out of copyright or completely original and so I thought I'd give a talented soul from this community and opportunity to have some of their story illustrated.
The requirements are as follows:
1. The story must be suitable for the 4-8 age group
2. The style I will be using will be informed by Richard A Kirk (examples: http://www.richardakirk.com/gallery2.html) so the study must have a dark side to it, think Nightmare before Christmas etc
3. The story must fit in 32 pages, baring in mind that most of it will be for artwork. Abridged versions are welcome.
4. You MUST be prepared to let me illustrate it as I see fit. This isn't a commission but rather a chance to see someone's take on your work.
About the story having to have a "Dark" side to it: Obviously we're talking dark in terms of childrens books rather than by adult standards, but if you check out the artwork posted you should get an idea of what I'm after. Something surreal, slightly disturbing. I'm not interested in illustrating cutesy cutesy stories, so unfortunately this really is a point I can't change on.
To give you an idea of the kind of thing I'm looking for, I've been looking into greek mythology for influence. Obviously I can't pay you for this but I will give credit and you will receive a copy of all the artwork I produce based on it. And obviously if you want to try and publish the story at some point this won't affect that in any way since it's just a project submission.
I will say that I'm looking at several avenues for finding a story, and I have to chose one relatively soon (by the end of the week at the most) so if you have something you think might be suited, be sure to let me know asap!
Thanks! :)
