Petals were raining upon the street,
In mud and dirt, on the cold asphalt,
Crushed by the steps of the passing crowds,
And petals were raining upon the street

Mud and light, dirt and flower,
Graceful shapes and pieces of asphalt,
Dirt and hatred under the tall sky,
Mud and light, dirt and flower.

Petals were raining upon the street,
On grass and houces and hands of children,
Picked up by blue-eyed women, like nymphs,
And petals were raining upon the streets.
