Love thyself
When you have no
Answers

Love thyself
When they say
They only used you

Love thyself
When you see your
Dreams deferred

Love thyself
And I promise

All life’s trials
Will be solved

No harsh words will
Slip through their lips to you

And your mornings
Awaken to sweet dreams

Don’t you want to see
That untouched
American landscape?

Where blues never turn
And scarlet never runs

A place where
I am free
To love thee

It waits somewhere
Hiding inside of you

------
"If you get a feeling next time you see me
Do me a favor and let me know
'Cos it's hard to tell
It's hard to say
Oh well, okay"
Elliott Smith

Thanx Penelope and Kilgore
thank you for your kind words :)

perhaps poewhit doesnt need religion but kindness....the dalai lama says his religion is kindness...just a thought

Penelope you mentioned this piece had a don quixote feel to it....i thought it was more the ten commandments vibe lol

i like this poem particularly because certain lines are in reference to great american poets
hughes and whitman

Icicle and poewhit
I like your poems a lot also icicle, you already know that. But I want to use this also to get poewhits attention and ask him something. What do you hope to gain by your little drive-by comments like this that no one even understands? If you want to go to the trouble using words shouldn't they be understandable to those you direct them to? Like desvelado said, you write good poetry so you can write. And it does come off mean and snide when you do this, and since you talk about God a lot, you allow people to associate your kind of a mean streak with the Bible, which have nothing to do with each other. Maybe you should consider what your words are doing to your witness.
Sorry icicle, but maybe he will read this this way, you are one of the best in my books, keep on writing. I always look for your poetry. Robert.

RESPONSE POEWHIT
POETS ARE POETS if we were all alike, where would be the stew. I am pointed when I write. If noted my poetry ends, most of the time in periods. Sort of like darts into the dart board. I read the BIBLE a lot and I can witness to others in my writing. All as we can do is carve and mold our skills and life, a statue is just not there, it is chiseled.

Poewhit
"All as we can do is carve and mold our skills and life, a statue is just not there, it is chiseled."

So i've taken your comment as...you don't believe the sentiment in my writing to be an honest interpretation on life because i created a definite reassuring identity...a sort of "super-hero"?

perhaps youre looking too deeply into this piece?
i chose most of the words i did becuase of their individual images and the interesting picture they painted when looked at as a whole

there is no such thing as an "untouched American landscape" anymore
the american dream is not thought of the same way it was in earlier canonical pieces of american literature
but i like to reawaken that reassuring possibility that america can make big dreams come true, and make "superheros" out of hardworking ordinary people

i believe america is still the land of opportunity .....its people just need to undertake a revolution of "consciousness" now

imagine the possibilities if the American people just practiced mindfullness
or better yet...if all americans became buddhists!!!
THATS my dream for america :)
thank you
