Lost & Found*
A Short Story by G.S.Vasukumar
* Based on a true incident.

It was one Friday noon, one kid who went after a fruit seller hoping to get one apple. Actually, he was playing outside his grandmother’s house, and had come to this place on his summer vacation. Soon the kid realized not only the fruit seller had vanished among the crowd, he was far away from his grand mother’s house and was lost.

Tears rolled down from the kid’s cheeks, as he stood before a Mosque. After the Friday’s prayer, a stranger came towards the kid and asked: - “Son, are you lost?”

“Yes.” The kid replied still crying.

“Do you know where your house is?” The stranger asked the kid.

“No.” He replied.

“Come with me, I will help you to find your home.” The stranger said holding the kid’s hand and walking through the nearby streets. He was hoping that the kid may recognize his house. Unfortunately, the kid couldn’t identify his grand mother’s house. The stranger felt thirsty walking through many streets under the hot sun. So he went a house before him and asked for water.

A lady came and gave him a glass of water. When he was drinking the water from the glass, he noticed that she had been crying until now over something.

“Is something wrong?” He asked giving back the empty glass to her.

“Yes, I lost my son sometime back.” She replied sadly.

“Oh, I found a kid crying near the Mosque after my prayer,” He said pulling the kid forward towards the lady.

Immediately, the stranger saw smiles on both their faces, as the mother took him into her arms, hugged the kid and kissed on his cheek.

“Thank you, thank you very much.” She said smiling at the stranger.

The stranger looked towards the sky to thank God.
