Out of the still, dark night came a distant wail: "I NEED some!"
Silence. Closer: "Gotta GET some!"
More silence. Even closer: "Gotta have some NOW!"
My wife sat up in bed beside me. "You've been awake?"
"I just thought I was hearing something."
"I love your cool," she said, "but we've got to get out of here."
"Well, I'm curious about what it wants, I'm - "
"We have no time for that. You HEARD it. That's enough. You get us OUT of here."
"OK, now I see it," I said, "up this way - "
From the cliff's edge, we heard the wailing, wanting, gliding by far below us.
