It don’t cost to get the blues
‘cept maybe your soul
Maybe your heart too
Body ache
Face shake
Tears fall
Alone at a table
Single light bulb
Swinging from the ceiling fan
Liquor scattered cross the counter
Poison in the highest order
Gun on chair

What the blues done got me?
A lot trouble
Whole lotta pan
But there's one thing that I've got
It's my woman
It's my woman
She be there
Tired of my shit
All of this mess
But the blues can’t make me forget
My woman

She look so good
She look so fine
But I love her
Yes, I love her

All these females
Come at me
Saying they love me too
But I love her

I don't know why I do
She isn't true
She cheat on me
What can I do?

Oh, my woman, I love her so
She’ll never know
I’d give her my life
But I don't care
When she takes me in her arms
The world is bright
What's the difference?
If she runs around on me

and how different this one is. You've got a gift there Bran, for diversity, of subject matter and voice. I loved this one, just everything about it, it felt completely real. I imagined the guy like telling all this to the barman after maybe too many drinks. What a picture, this big tough guy baffled by his emotions, by the strength of his emotions. Loves this one too, don't know how you do it.

Urban reality
Bran,

this really sales on a light breeze, even tho the subject is "the blues". I like best the lines

Gun on chair"

This is a scene straight out of one of the old delta juke joint road house clubs. There was a "blues" club (cat house) just up the road of a house I lived in as a kid -- we used to sneak out at night and watch the players go in, come back out. Yeah, there was more than a few hog legs we saw tucked into some jackets and belts.

This is great urban poetry, real pungent, tangy, dripping bar-b-que sauce and colt 45 malt liquor.
