A woman in a short skirt
just screams hurt me rape me
love me
to men who blink indifferent
into blue dawn light
"Use once and destroy"
My value diminishes with each kiss
each inch of flesh unfolded
Now slips away the world
of amorphous wanting.
Run boys, to heel
run back to your mothers
and renew love for
women pure and unsullied

show your pampered innards;
suckled pigs unweaned
still sticky from ma's
swollen belly.

I have grown pubic hairs
and fat
where childish things once
lingered

Fresh meat, how quickly I spoil.

Spoiling with a fight
Well-expressed - you're describing one of the basic complexes of modern womanhood. But in this perpective, it seems self-hatred and hatred for the men who judge and degrade you get bound up together: you can't decide who to blame, so you end up blaming everyone. This policy of scorched-earth scorn is perhaps a fraction 'too much' (I feel as I might reading Plath at her most petulent and least effective?) but nevertheless, it's strong. It echoes for me, and I suspect for all my contempories. Good job.

Delicious . . .
. . . in a non-gustatory sense. Vivid, raw, engrossing. A few words suggested so much -- I caught a whiff of smoke mixed with astroglide and tequila. And self-contempt, perhaps.

Acutely Raw
Wow, this was raw. 'Tis a difficult topic to grasp, for sure.

I am always having men (who are far too comfortable with me), ask me why I don't wear shorter skirts.

I have a couple skirts that I find uncomfortably short, that I wear when I have meetings with people I know have seen all the other clothes that I own.

They are suits, and the price was right, so I try to get out of my comfort zone and wear something different once in a while.

I wear suits with long skirts most of the time, that I call my librarian outfits. But, even so, my husband tells me they are too sexy and I shouldn't wear them to work. (So far, I haven't found an outfit he is satisfied with. He has suggested I wear a sleeping bag.)

But you always wonder - when you do wear the short ones - are they (the men who ask you why you don't wear shorter skirts, or more accurately, the ones who TELL you that you should wear shorter skirts) the first to mention to someone else how slutty you have dressed today?

Men say women are impossible to figure out. I tend to think I undersand men very well. But, I think they mask more than women do, and are therefore more difficult to truly know.

So, men... what's the story? Do you think women are asking to be raped when they dress sexy? And, is it the skirt, the shoes, or the cleavage that determines what a woman is trying to say?
