INVENTOR OF INTERMITTENT WIPERS DEAD AT 77
Robert Kearns, the inventor of the windshield wiper delay and victor in multi-million dollar lawsuits against auto manufacturers for using his idea, has died at the age of 77 following an intermittent illness.
Kearns won millions in judgments against Ford and Chrysler, but later suits against GM and foreign manufacturers went back and forth for years, and were eventually dismissed. Although far from insolvent, a large portion of the money awarded him in damages was wiped out by legal fees.
In accordance with his wishes and living will, no devices were employed to delay his death.
Mr. Kearns was a man of vision and glass. He will clearly be mist from time to time.
