Uno. Bueno. Ueno.
March is on the march.
The subway worms our way to
The land of sneezing quietude of Museum Land
Minato - Leave the nest – terminato
Minato-ku: the nest of bowing diplomacy
I have rented a square foot at Uno, Bueno, Ueno.
On it we huddle, bump shoguns, eat utopian tapioca.

Hana Yori Dango-
Flowers are not in flowers but florist’s delight.
Bueno- Ueno Koen,
Minato-ku to Taito-ku.
Clangless steel of the subway to Keisei Ueno.
I savor your Eurosashimi
While sakura blossoms dazzle your blue eyes.

Ah So
What's this doing under flash fiction? Sure looks like a poem to me, and a pretty good one, too.

I don't understand some of the words, though I take it uno is one, bueno is good, terminato is end, terminate? The rest of the foreign words I have to guess at wildly.

But I like this piece - it has a personality, mood, and some very good lines, especially the last two.

Would like a little edification so I can enjoy it more. Did you accidently post it under flash fiction?

Regarding the Ann Arbor homeless. It stands to reason that the elite of the homeless would gravitate to Ann Arbor, which is one of my favorite places.

I live less than 40 miles from there and years ago I used to go there on Sundays to my favorite bar, the Del Rio, for afternoon jazz sessions. Great place. This is back in the early 70's.

Typical of the non-conformists that you meet there, there was one guy I would run into occaisionally. He was an older guy, about 60, who had dropped acid with Timothy Leary in the early days. He was an inventor who didn't work for the University but would get hired by them for special projects. For a research project, he invented a machine for them that would maturbate dogs.

He was also a fan of eating calf and sheep brains. One day after a storm had knocked out power the night before, he said he had to leave the Del Rio to head over to the little grocery where he usually purchased his brains. Their freezer had gone out during the storm and they were giving away all their frozen brains and he intended on cashing in and having a big brain feast. Said he might pick up some ice cream, too. He is probably now homeless and has an email account through your guy.

I take it you went to school or lived there?

Anyway, I like your piece here.

Japan A-Squared
This IS flash fiction that happens to have some rhythm to it, in my mind. It was started by flashbacks of diplomatic service in Japan. The U. S. Embassy is on Minato-ku. The Ueno park is as colorful as Ann Arbor.

I went to school there. I think Del Rio is in the downtown area, where I remember Mr. Flood's Party jazz bar was, nearby the Earl's restaurant, somewhere there J. Star Lounge, Ashley's, The Whiffle Tree, and The Blind Pig.

I do remember meeting Timothy Leary's friends at the house next to Dominick's, which in the 60's hosted the SDS headquarters, and where Jane Fonda's SDS husband, forgot his name, used to live for lack of his own housing.

Next door to the State St cinema there used to be a Japanese micro-restaurant. They had only one or two items on their sushi menu, and only occasionally that included fish of the kind that has scales and fins.
