Not referring to everyone's sandwiches for the next week, but withdrawal symptoms. If all violent and sexual content was removed from our mass media - where would we be? This relates to an article posted by Piggyvic about the mass media and its pollutant affect on all of us - but especially the younger people. I agree that the lewd and aggressive acts in a good many of the so-called ‘entertainments’ are far from edifying or entertaining. So we’re back to the good ol’ days. Shakespeare plays – Romeo and Juliet (14 years old) Macbeth with witches, ghosts and murder. Hamlet (couldn’t make his mind up whether to slash his wrists or not) – so they’re a non-starter. Replace it then with ‘The Waltons’ ‘Open All Hours’ and so forth. Won’t the thrills be sought elsewhere? The public might clamour for more blood and sex in the news instead.
Where do we draw the line? News reports are sometimes quite horrifying, IRA bombings in Britain, 9/11, Bali, train and plane crashes, the list is endless, would they be censored? Hopefully not, although I rarely trust news reports anyway, the truth and the news are hardly ever interchangeable. Think about this though, reality is far weirder than fantasy, we could see the unleashing of an army of news reporters dedicated to seeking out the really, really sickening stories. I realize the media now are not exactly saintly but by comparison the Neo-News Reporters might make them seem positively holy.
I suggest that it’s already too late. We’re on a downhill train journey to hell and the brakes have been removed.
Erm, Happy New Year everybody?
Take care y’hear?

------ In five hundred years time, most of us will be forgotten dust. But Hitler will still be remembered, God loves irony.
