They can market anything – they can rape anything – anything can be primed for mass consumption – and it takes no intelligence whatsoever:

What can you say for someone who takes someone else’s religious documents, with little education nor understanding and none of the cultural contexts nor experiences, and proceeds to culturally rape them as if she’s created some New Age cult to sell people books and tapes on how to live?

Some may know already whom I’m talking about, but for those who don’t, let me make some positive and negative examples before I reveal the aforementioned parasite.

Remember Cat Stevens? He was an Englishman with Greek Cypriot heritage who later became the Muslim mullah Yusef Islam. He now teaches people Islam, but he became Muslim and absorbed that knowledge completely before disseminating it. He is also educated, intelligent and moral.

Remember Angelina Jolie? She is active in helping Asian refugee children to survive and become educated and to overcome the destruction of their families and neighborhoods. She put her money where her mouth is and adopted a little boy whom she actively raises, and frequently goes to Asia to physically work with the relief workers whom she funds with her own money and her strenuous fundraising. She speaks to the public frequently about the issues connected with the plight of these children, with expertise and intelligence and eloquence.

Now: we’re done with the positive examples.

Let’s leave unnamed the television actor who created the Psychic Friends Network. “My psychics will get better results than your psychics…” Can you say ‘get rich quick’? Why didn’t Miss Cleo see it coming when she saw this guy go broke and getting fined and sued? Or Dionne Warwick, for that matter?

Enough of that.

Who are we talking about, gang? Well, first, what are we talking about?

There are sacred Jewish writings that are being raped and sold like Dianetics (without even the sinister marketing and deceit savvy of the late, evil L. Ron Hubbard, ala Scientology and creator of Dianetics).

What are these writings? They are the Kabbalah, and they are a collection of writings on philosophy and the spiritual world, and are considered to be so esoteric and possibly dangerous that in the Orthodox Jewish community, it is considered blasphemy for a man younger than 35 years of age to look at them. It’s pretty much for the same reason why you can’t be the President of the USA until you’re at least 35 (although there apparently is no accounting for IQ, as things stand presently). Spiritual and personal maturity are the issues in this case. Who is best able to understand these writings? Trained Rabbis who understand the Jewish culture of yesterday and today and are experienced enough in life and their faith to know how to apply these writings.

Who is making money turning these sacred writings into consumerist, New Age psuedo-spirituality?

None other than the psuedo-musical, psuedo-talented, psuedo-person Madonna. In between bouts of rubbing her genitalia in front of the general public and of course kissing overripe barely-legal sluts (who learned it all from her) on television, Madonna has been writing children’s books.

Well, at least we have the right people doing this for us, right everyone?

She’s written three: the first one didn’t catch on, and the second and third one apparently are about a little boy and the Kabbalah. Nevermind that little boys aren’t supposed to be reading the Kabbalah. This is aside from her other panderings of ‘Kabbalah’ knowledge, including with the help of her young ho’ buddy, Britney Spearme, who also is now chattering about the Kabbalah, which is not for idiots, in VERY… SMALL… WOOORRRRDSSSSS.

From what I have read about her gibberish, she’s writing these books as if she has the perspective of someone who is Jewish. What she actually is, of course, is white trash from … is it New York City? can’t remember… of Italian Catholic background. She also has no real education and went right into the entertainment business, more or less, and hammered away at learning to market herself rather than to create real music. In America of course this means that she learned how to be nasty and slutty, which is the whole of her cultural legacy.

So what is she doing writing about the Kabbalah and using Britney Spearme to help her market it?

Isn’t this the person who seemed to have a new maturity when she had a baby by another idiot… and when she needed more money (since she can’t make it any other way) went right back out there and started being a media slut again?

Isn’t she still being a media slut, and is this what the Kabbalah is doing for her?

Or is it simply expected to raise her apparent IQ for everybody? Well, that’s not working for Britney Spearme, I assure you.

I have recently read of a Rabbi warning people to stay away from Madonna’s marketing of the Kabbalah.

Listen to the experts. Unless you have the maturity, intelligence, cultural context and sense to make true use of something that another people created, don’t turn it into pop spiritual pap. Leave it alone.

Now, Madonna, you can go back to rubbing yourself and sucking face with Britney Spearme and SHUT UP.

How sad but true
They (being a certain bunch of cynical sods with one hand on their puds and the other massaging their nice, big, juicy bank accounts)are, it seems, put on this Earth to exploit anything and nothing is sacred. God - what a world we exist in.
Btw, thanks for comment on my Spec. Fiction piece.
Cheers

QBLH
Yeah, I agree. It seems like a new fad with Madonna and, like various yoga styles, is rapidly becoming disassociated from the original intention. Although I thought the Qabbalah was suitable for males closer to forty or even fifty, and males only, but maybe that's just an antiquated tradition even some practitioners have strayed from.

Anyway, it's Hollywood. Apparently nothing is sacred, which is unfortunate.

nothing sacred
Thanks for the information. Enjoyed the read. I had read a little about this the other day and was surprised at some of its "new followers."

The point is...
...Madonna is nothing but a media whore trying to make herself seem a lot deeper than she is while her tongue is in one of her own clones' mouth.

Plus, her insincere abuse of the Kabbalah is incredibly disrespectful.

It's a case of someone trying to be something they're not, and she's a very sickening example.

right-oh
Alienist,
You've done it again. H.L. Mencken, move over.
Certainly Madonna is doing what she does best, beating people up with their own beliefs. She started out like a virgin, offending a good portion of the Catholic community. Now that she has desecrated most of the symbols of Christendom, it is time to move on to Judaism. Underneath that iron bra of hers there may be lurking a true spiritual void that compels her to embrace the sacred with a profane approach. She is a fad-ist, for lack of a better term, and since Qaballah is in vogue(dare I use the term "vogue" with Madonna?) she is in the middle of it. It is, of course, funny and sad.
I loved your rant. It was very amusing to me. As a cynic, I've managed to stay amused with the petty goings-on in music and stardom, and am always amazed with how easily we are entertained. Madonna and "SpearMe" are definitely products of a media-driven hedonism that pervades all corners. It was fun to read your spin on it. As usual, your writing was clear, crisp, and easy to read.

Agreement
misterE, you say it well: Madonna embraces the sacred with a profane approach.

And people say Heavy Metal is bad! Agh!

Penelope: you're right, what is sacred can be a shifting paradigm, as you point out in the struggle between the Christian and Earth Religion paradigms long ago in Europe, particularly among the Celts. I think of the story of Merlin when you mention this.

What might be the next great paradigm? I'm so disappointed in the practice of Christianity as it is with so many people today that I shudder to think what will happen to most believers when all these institutions fall. When all illusions are torn away and the 'Christian' institutional churches are wholly exposed for the sins of their manipulations for the Boss and for their own power, I wonder how the masses will react. I see a lot of people turning away from the RC Church as it is - myself included. I'm only about as Catholic as my Irish blood and my liberation theology now. I can't stand it anymore.

gender bias
Penelope, since you earlier accuse me of gender bias, perhaps I should balance my rant with mention of the 'Other Madonna', so to speak, and it's not such a bad moniker for this guy:

Marylin Manson.

He's pretty much done all the same things, but at least in a very MILDLY stronger spirit of protest and social critique. But Heavy Metal he will never be to me, and I feel sorry for metalheads who fall in with him. He's just another GG Allin to me, and that's not good. Neither was GG Allin good for punk, and that guy was about as extreme a form of what Madonna and MM are that I can think of at the moment.

Yes, to compare MM to Madonna seems appropriate to me if I am to balance my comments in order to show you that I'm not thinking anti-female here. The thing is, she is so much more visible and influential than MM, and she's the media darling who is presented to us far more often; my only sin, I insist, is that the only reigning male example is so powerfully occluded by hers and that of her duplicates.

As for Sinead, she's a pitiable individual who is a victim of extreme abuse and a lot of spiritual wear and tear, a product of modern Ireland and all of its pain. I think she's forgivable. She's suffered through a great deal and obviously has mental illness, so I do think she deserves some patience and forgiveness. This is how, I believe, the Irish people put up with her.

Wargod Patriarchy
Ok, Penelope, I'll confess to some residual Wargod Patriarchy in my dusty ol' noggin.

I'm a recovering American.

>>I have no 'real education' and
>>here I am writing poetry. The nerve!

Sure you do. Have the education of life, and you come from a better secondary system than hers anyway. But you've been an organizer and done and seen a great deal, and thought a lot more; plus you have vastly more intellectual equipment than Madonna to begin with.

You plenty of education.

Kaballah
Great rant, Alienist. I can't say that I agree with all of it, but I like it nonetheless. I know a little about the Kaballah, but my wife (raised as a Catholic) has embraced it much more than I. I have tried to warn her about it, but that hasn't stopped her from reading a whole slew of books about it. I sorta wished she didn't. I don't think she respected it.

But, the
The common wisdom of the Judeo-Christian wolrd holds that anything is beatiful, whatever you can say in the name of peace and love is beatiful, and certainly, the wisdom and secrets of Jews, along with their Torah, have been de-Judaized, stripped of their Jewishness, and declared as the property of the world. (Torah does say,"I am Lord your God that took YOU out of Egypt")
It is beatiful to divulge secrets, to be a whistleblower, to speak pleasing words, to feel good on stage and conclude that it is the license to upbraid the masses(remember Sting after a concert, when asked about the campaign to save rainforests, responded by saying that America is a disgusting place)
