Fair Spring's first sign is you, my friend,
Fahrvergnügening on my wall.
Just be most careful where you wend --
A kitchen's not too safe, that's all.
You can't find too much trouble here
Fahrvergnügening on my shelf,
But oven, fridge, and drops of beer
Are danger to your little self.

At coffee, I don't look for you
Fahrvergnügening on my cup;
A quick escape is yours to do
When I perform a bottoms-up!
When I cook lunch, don't be there, pal,
Fahrvergnügening on my spoon;
I don't inquire to your locale
While dashing through my meal at Noon.

I know you float, but hey, my friend,
Fahrvergnügening in my sink
Is not the safest way to fend!
I'd give you just a drop to drink.
And if I find you very still,
Fahrvergnügening in the tide,
I'll move you to a towel, I will --
And know you'll wander once you've dried.

Now here you are, and all your kin,
Fahrvergnügening on my panes --
Too cold outside, so stay within!
Await the warming Springtime rains.
One day, you soak up April sun
Fahrvergnügening on my screen;
It's drawing you, me, everyone
To all that's warm and fresh and green.

I open up, and you walk out,
Fahrvergnügening on my sill.
And then you scamper out of sight
And now the kitchen's very still.
I hope you're loving all that lured,
Fahrvergnügening on my lawn.
You never said a single word --
And yet it's quiet once you're gone.

It wouldn't be right to dream, while
Forgetting to live, it seems;
Nor would it be right to dwell on life
And yet forget our dreams.

fahr out: don't be there, pal
nimbus, this is so darling, and so weird.

i'm kind of baffled and amazed and this fahrvergnugening that ladybugs apparently do a lot of. (ah, umlaut, where are you in this plain text world?) is it a bit like lollygagging, maybe? somewhat confused... and amused...

and yes, they're sweet, until they decide to come in droves. (did you know that certain strains of them actually bite?)

great work!

Good work!
Nicely done. I enjoyed this very much. It's like a little story.:)

Fahrvergnügen!
Thanks for the comments! I'm aware of the Summer contest, and may make it there yet, but my plot bunny was too long-winded (for once), and indoor ladybugs are more a Spring thing. I'll check with the Summer bunny.

On the word, Volkswagen built an ad campaign around it one year; Per dict.cc, "Fahrvergnügen" is "driving pleasure". The little critters zip around my kitchen, exploring everything in sight. I'm in the process of evicting the last one.

Ladybugs Don't Bug Me
This is just darn tootin' fabulous. Strangely, I find myself disagreeing with Ark, I don't find this poem odd or weird at all. It's just perfect.

My favorite bit is the last few lines -- how funny that even the smallest, wending presence can create such a sharp sensation of other?
