"Open the Gates and Seize the Day." - Newsies.
You know, New Years was a good time for me, it really was. Made a few Resolutions, ate a few too many candies, and drank a bit too much Cider. Christmas was great with a bit of Family Dining at the Eve, and the Day was superb. Getting a FIVE POUND BAR, I'll say that again, A FIVE POUND BAR OF HERSHEYS CHOCOLATE, is a great gag gift. Getting Attack of the Killer Tomatoes on VHS as a gag gift, is not great. Hey, I love Chocolate, but I hate The Tomato. And a One and a...
You know, there is a lost art these days in the Movie Making business. In this day and age of Slapstick, Drama, Horror, and Action Movies, their seems to be one genre that's just faded into the background, reserved for Cartoon movies. Even then, it's started to get really, really Obscure.
I'm talking of course about Musicals.
Newsies, Fiddler on the Roof(Got that for Christmas, but I must find it now.) Hell, I myself haven't seen many Musical Movies that I can remember, but I do know That I really did Enjoy them. The odd combination of Singing, Dancing packed into a movie to enhance, not detract, from it.. I hear they tried that in the Recent Movie Moulin Rouge, and I'm thinking I want to see it. Box office, it bombed like Pearl Harbor, but you can't really judge a movie until you see it. Musicals, I find, are now restricted to Broadway. Hell, Disney movies these day's will have maybe ONE SONG in the movie, Look at The Emperor's New Groove. The Beginning sequence was really the only Musical one in there. You Look at Disney Movies like the Aladdin Series, well they be jam Packed full of Songs. No Dancing in it though, So It'd be classified as a Cartoon I believe. Newsies was a great Musical, Wit' the New York, Brooklyn accents all exaggerated, even when they'se was singin'. The Clothes, I think, were accurate to depict the era they were in, the Dancing was Very well Choreographed, and the Music was cool, That's all there is to it. It added to, and didn't detract from the movie I think, and I think that's why many people don't like musicals nowadays. They Think People singin' and Dancin' on the screen is way too silly and wouldn't work. Maybe they're right, maybe Musicals are just a thing of the past.....
Then again, Sister Act could be considered a Musical, even if I don't think they classifed it that way. Hell I have the Soundtracks for Both Sister Act and Sister Act 2, and I'm bettin' half the cast is singin' the Soundtrack, and that in my mind classifies it as a Musical.
