1.1 About Lit.Org
Lit.Org is a community, if you will, for the world of literature on the web. And not just literature in the classic sense. The web has opened a door for creators allowing for quick, easy and mass publications. The ability to potentially reach thousands, even millions of readers is the lure most writers can't resist. Lit.Org is a community site. For writers by writers. Your work gets seen and often commented on by writers giving you advise, praise and criticism. This open forum style lets you get your works out fast and get feedback instantly. Readers also get a good bit out of the site. They get the newest stories from aspiring writers delivered quickly. Readers get to give feedback to the Writers and Writers get to talk to their audience. It's a win win situation. We also have a sister site focusing on discussions for writers, at Writing Forums.com.

As an aspiring writer, I found that having my own place to publish my work, and with very little effort in the way of advertising, I was getting between 500 and 1000 hits a day. With the new and improved interface for adding users and allowing the citizens of cyber space to contribute in our writing community, we have expanded our resources and through more advertising have achieved even greater numbers. Lit.Org is a great way to get your work to your fans and new readers.

We are dedicated to helping writers. We want you to get exposure and gain new readers. We wish to help promote you and your works in any way we can. To that effect we offer our posting service which allows writers to submit any kind of written work they wish. We have an open forum as well as an announcement service where you can announce your own sites updates. We also have a weekly newsletter which we often feature our writers in. All of the features are free and we encourage you to use them.

We ask very little in return. Tell people to visit lit.org to get the latest news about literature and epublishing. Tell them lit.org is where you can find the latest and greatest works posted on the web. Tell them they can find your work at lit.org. You can use some of our handy banners or buttons to link back to us. Tell people to join our mailing list, Majestic, to get the latest scoop on new writers, site updates and special announcements! But most of all, read our stories, write your own, and submit it to lit.org!

1.2 History of Lit.Org
Quite literally, Lit.Org is the sum of its parts. Combining useful information and quality Columns, Lit.Org is an amalgam of people and ideas. Created by writers for writers. Lit.Org is a Portal to literature and lit related web sites all over the web.

Lit.Org was created Over 7 years ago as a personal project some friends and I cooked up. We were basically fooling around trying to learn more about web hosting, web design and the related technologies. Early on it had its ups and down, various incarnations and the general malaise one feels just before going manic.

Surviving these turbulent trials, We registered other domains and put our twisted personal ideas there leaving Lit.Org in limbo. Coupled with the server moving several times, Lit.Org suffered a prolonged suspended animation.

Nothing can keep a good Web site down.. for long. Lit.Org's strength returned. With a renewed sense of style and passion, Lit.Org spidered the web digging up tons of information, links and other useful data mines for writers, role players, fan fiction, comics and much more. Lit.Org ushered in a new era.

Lit.Org found it's niche with aspiring writers, artists, and creators. Focusing on community and creativity, Lit.Org's goal is to provide a stable web portal to the Internet Literary Scene. Shining the proverbial light on up and coming writers, as well as recently established ones! We hope to chat with well known writers and creators and get their input on this medium and help new writers get published via exposure!

Thank You very much for visiting and participating in the lit.org community! Read, write, and enjoy!

5.0 Guidelines
Please read this entire document before posting! It could save you, and us, a great deal of time. If you don't read this, your post may never get posted. We are extremely flexible and are willing to help you with anything that we can. We will also improve the site with your suggestions. If you find something doesn't work, or doesn't work the way you want it to, let us know. We will do our best to implement any change that helps our users. Send and e-mail to editor@lit.org.

[ ^ Top ]

5.1 Formatting your Post.
First, make sure you give your work a title, even if the title is untitled. This is perfectly acceptable. Second, be sure you pick a category. If you don't, we'll guess and put it where we *think* it belongs. For the body of your post, let the submit window word wrap your text. Hard returns (pressing enter) will result in a new line being displayed and can skew the formatting of your post. You should only use hard returns (pressing enter) to create new paragraphs. Please press enter twice between paragraphs to make your story easier to read. Posts that do not comply will be rejected for editing.

[ ^ Top ]

5.2 What we will accept.
Original Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry, Short Stories, Essays, Commentary, Reviews, Articles or original works. If in doubt, Send us an e-mail and ask. We would be more than happy to help! Send email to editor@lit.org.

[ ^ Top ]

5.3 What we will NOT accept.
Porn, Erotica, or X-Rated stories. No Fan Fiction or anything not created by you. It must be original and yours. There are plenty of places for specialized submissions. Fan Fiction Forums is a great place for Fan Fiction. We do NOT accept lists, top 10's or anything of the sort.

[ ^ Top ]

5.3.1 We do NOT accept Adult, Pornographic, or Erotica
There are no exceptions. It's okay to talk about sex in your story, but it's not okay to describe it. This is in no way meant to judge a work based on it's sexual content. If a story contains sexual content, it will be reviewed by the staff. If we find the story to be too descriptive or adult in nature, it will be rejected without warning. This is never a personal decision, nor do we find it offensive. We simply don't allow adult, pornographic, or erotic stories here at Lit.Org. Lit.Org and it's staff are the sole arbiters when deciding what is acceptable and what isn't.

[ ^ Top ]

5.3.2 We do NOT accept Fan Fiction
Lit.Org loves Fan Fiction, however, there is just so much to cover it wouldn't be fair to Authors and the Fan Fiction stories themselves if we tried to cover it. For all your Fan Fiction needs, please visit our sister site at Fanfiction HQ, the premier source to get your Fan Fiction fix!

[ ^ Top ]

5.4 Censor Ratings
We do not censor posts. With the exception of pornographic material, erotica etc. We simply don't accept content of a strictly adult nature. This site is for all ages. Keep this in mind when posting your works. As we rarely censor any postings, a few things will get you posts deleted, or worse, get you banned from the site. Remember this when posting anything that might give another read pause. Include a quick disclaimer at the top of your post. This is the best way to let users know what they are getting into. ex: "This story contains adult themes, violence and language." - It's that simple.

1. Warn readers if your work contains profanity, adult situations, horror or violence. Give them the chance to choose not to view these materials. This goes for all postings on lit.org including the Archive and Forums.
2. Subject's may not contain ANY profanity at all. Any post with profanity in it will be deleted. Repeat violations will have your account blocked.
3. Respect fellow writers. When you post comments about work, feel free to criticize the work. Offer suggestions for improvement. Do not flame the writer. You'll be banned quickly.

Use the ratings below (borrowed from movieratings.com) as a guide. If your not sure what your post should be rated, play it safe and go with the highest rating.

[G] General Audience
All ages admitted. This signifies that the film rated contains nothing most parents will consider offensive for even their youngest children to see or hear. Nudity, sex scenes, and scenes of drug use are absent; violence is minimal; snippets of dialogue may go beyond polite conversation but do not go beyond common everyday expressions.

[PG] Parental Guidance Suggested
Some material may not be suitable for children. This signifies that the film rated may contain some material parents might not like to expose to their young children - material that will clearly need to be examined or inquired about before children are allowed to attend the film. Explicit sex scenes and scenes of drug use are absent; nudity, if present, is seen only briefly, horror and violence do not exceed moderate levels.

[PG-13] Parents Strongly Cautioned
Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. This signifies that the film rated may be inappropriate for pre-teens. Parents should be especially careful about letting their younger children attend. Rough or persistent violence is absent; sexually-oriented nudity is generally absent; some scenes of drug use may be seen; one use of the harsher sexually derived words may be heard.

[R] Restricted-Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian
This signifies that the rating board has concluded that the film rated contains some adult material. Parents are urged to learn more about the film before taking their children to see it. An R may be assigned due to, among other things, a film's use of language, theme, violence, sex or its portrayal of drug use.

[NC-17] No One 17 and Under Admitted
This signifies that the rating board believes that most American parents would feel that the film is patently adult and that children age 17 and under should not be admitted to it. The film may contain explicit sex scenes, an accumulation of sexually-oriented language, or scenes of excessive violence. The NC-17 designation does not, however, signify that the rated film is obscene or pornographic.

[ ^ Top ]

5.5 Who's responsible for Grammar and Spelling
Why, you are of course. There are plenty of spell checkers available for free. Most word processors have them built in and include basic grammar checking. We won't check your work, but if we spot submissions that just stick out like a sore thumb, they'll be rejected for you to improve them. Remember, bad grammar and spelling will get your story shot full of holes quicker than anything else. Trust us, We know from first hand experience.

[ ^ Top ]

5.6 How many items can I or should I submit at once?
We have a Queue Limit that only allows you to have a certain number of items in the queue at any given time. We adjust this limit as needed, but it is usually set to a maximum of 5 items in the queue at any time. If you have 5 in the queue and 1 gets validated, you may submit a item. The current queue limit is set to 5. The queue limit was introduced to help slow down mass submissions.

[ ^ Top ]

5.7 How many items can I submit per day?
You can submit up to the queue limit per day, but the queue limit is cumlative. If you have more items in the queue than the current queue limit, your submission will be rejected. At any given time you may not have more than the current queue limit in the queue waiting to be validated. If you have no items in the queue, you can submit up to the limit. If you want to submit all your posts in one day, you may, as long as it doesn't exceed the queue limit. The current queue limit is set to 5.

[ ^ Top ]

5.8 How many items can I submit total?
You may submit as many stories as you like. There is currently no limit. The only limitation is the number of items you may have waiting to be validated at any given time. You may have as many published pieces as you like.
