An ex-girlfriend of mine once told me of a condition called vaginismus which causes, whether for psychological or physiological reasons, the vagina to lock up tight - thus rendering penetration difficult and painful for both parties.
I have never encountered this - usualy I find women locked at the knees - but the word stuck. It stuck because immediately upon hearing it I diagnosed the primary affliction under which our ill-conceived species labours - cerebral vaginismus.
