In order to enjoy life, it seems imperative that one finds satisfaction in his or her employment. I work as a social justice advocate for underprivileged populations. Certainly, there are many ups and downs—today’s success may lead to tomorrow’s failure; but success, even for a short while, is worth every second invested.
Away from work, I find enjoyment and intrigue in the simple things life has to offer, from quiet walks on nature trails to canoeing down lazily flowing rivers and streams. It is through experiencing these free and simple pleasures that we can conceptualize the basic foundations of life. Familiarization with these basic foundations gives us insight into our more complex civilization, preparing us for challenges that, more often than not, lurk in wait.
Who among us knows where our civilization is leading? As long as we have natural habitats as a point of reference, we can return, if only occasionally, to a place where one can contemplate the fundamentals of life and reach a brief equilibrium with the world around us.
